In the period of the German EU Council Presidency (second half of the year 2020), the DAAD has started to set up various alumni activities to make the ideas and impulses of its alumni visible and to promote networking and exchange among DAAD alumni from all over Europe.

EU ideas labs
Starting in the period of the German EU Council Presidency (second half of 2020), DAAD alumni associations and the DAAD network in the EU countries were asked to organise EU Ideas Labs for alumni. The Labs are designed to jointly develop forward-looking ideas for issues that are of particular importance for the future of the EU.
Two idea labs for alumni could take place in 2020: The EU Ideas Lab for participants from Italy, Croatia and Slovenia (Migration) and the Ideas Lab in Poland (Green Deal). Further labs are to follow in 2021: In spring 2021 France (April) as well as Germany with participation from Austria and Hungary (see below). In Autumn 2021: Labs in Hungary and Serbia with participation from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro (probably September 2021) are going to take place.
Alumni from EU countries and the Western Balkans provide ideas at events dealing with topics such as "The European Green Deal", migration or democracy in Europe. Due to the current CoVID-pandemic, the "Joint fight against pandemics" or the perspective "Europe Post-COVID" were added.
Winners from the EU Ideas Labs are invited to present their ideas at an EU-wide DAAD alumni meeting, probably in Berlin in spring 2022. With the alumni events on the topic of the European Union, we would like to contribute to the discussion process on the future of Europe, which is currently also being formally initiated at EU level with the "Conference on the Future of the EU".
